Most bottles of wine tell you very little. A region. A grape. A year. The person who actually made it — who farmed the land, made the decisions, took the risks — stays invisible behind the label.
We started Argilla because we think that's a shame.
Argilla is Latin for clay, the soil that carries the character of a place into the fruit.
We chose the name because wine doesn't begin in the cellar. It begins in the ground, and in the hands of the person who tends it. Those people are who we're here for.
We travel to meet winemakers who work outside the mainstream — people who farm with patience, who intervene as little as possible, and who make wines that taste like somewhere specific and someone real. Many of them are hard to find. They don't have large distribution networks or glossy campaigns. They have something better: a story worth telling.
When you know that a winemaker waited three extra weeks before harvest, or that her family has farmed the same hillside for four generations, or that he nearly abandoned the vineyard before one extraordinary vintage changed everything — the wine in your glass becomes something different. More connected. More alive.
We don't expect you to be a wine expert. We only ask that you're curious.
